Providing Lasting, Unconditional Support for vulnerable youth through Mentorship and Hosting.
There is a substantial need in Lane County to support slightly older youth, ages 14-24. We aim to surround youth with a safety net and a positive support system to prevent abuse and reduce unemployment, substance abuse, homelessness, human trafficking, and incarceration.
Mentor
Mentors guide and support youth along their journey to help them achieve their goals. Mentors come alongside the youth to:
Provide lasting support and shared experiences
Help with exploring talents, strengths, and careers
Teach life skills
Host
Host families are screened, approved, and trained by the Safe Families team to offer housing and relational connectedness to the young adult that they are hosting in their home. Hosting youth often looks different as they approach independence, however they are still in need of a safe space and guidance towards the goal of independent living.
Program Basics
Youth may be involved with Safe Families for a short period to resolve familial crisis, or for as long as 2+ years as they transition to independence. Volunteers and youth will meet as part of match process to discuss expectations and to ensure compatibility. All youth will meet regularly with a case manager as they work towards their individual goals.
