08 Aug Round of Applause-Mary Ruth Hixson
I am a country girl from rural Wyoming who was raised on a large cattle ranch far from neighbors or community. I was educated at the University of Wyoming and raised my children in the Cowboy State.
To this day I find solace in the company of animals, nature, solitude, and silence. Personal hobbies include riding my bicycle and reading. As a parent, step parent, and grandmother I have walked through hard times and experienced some overwhelming challenges. God has always proven faithful and Jesus is my savior and close companion.
During my career I worked several years in a treatment center with abused, neglected and delinquent youth before serving special education students and their families for many years in the public school system. My husband and I relocated to Oregon following retirement to continue life’s adventures. Since moving to Eugene in 2018 I have been seeking a place to be useful to God’s kingdom through sharing my gifts and skills.
When I was introduced to Safe Families I was thrilled to hear of an organization that aligned with my deepest passions – faith and family. My life experiences, career, and current situation all find connection in the Safe Family Program. I am eager to share the opportunities for others to serve children & families in life changing ways through their local church. It excites me to know there is a volunteer level of involvement for anyone from prayer warrior to a hands on care giver.
Serving others in our neighborhood shines the light of Christ into our community and brings great blessings to the givers. I truly hope Fairfield Baptist will be motivated by their great love for God and each other to serve the children and families in our community with Jesus’ tender care and compassion.
